Craig Mickelson riding Grim
Reaper, Lochsa river |
"The trip was everything we expected, and more... It was packed with
excitement and yet we always felt safe. You do a super job with all your
maneuvering etc. and we all had confidence that safety was your #1
concern." J. Ristow, Portland,
Oregon "Just wanted you to know how much we appreciated our
ride on the Lochsa, and your hospitality while we were there. You really run a
great show... Thanks again for the great family experience."
P. Namos, Coeur d Alene, Idaho
"I want to thank you again for your tremendous help during our production
trip for the Lewis & Clark [The Journey of the Corps of Discovery] film. We
just got the footage back and its absolutely stunning. Our viewers will
now be able to see what the explorers saw..."
Dayton Duncan, Walpole, New Hampshire

Q: How much rafting
experience do I need?
A: Well, really not much. Many of our clients are first time rafters.
It is important that you follow directions. You need to be in reasonable
health, and have the adventuresome spirit that allows for facing the elements.
It is probably good to have run a day trip somewhere if you want to try a four
or five day trip.
Q: How do your
rivers compare to classic runs like the Gauley, the Colorado, and the Middle
Fork of the Salmon?
A: Our rivers rock! The Lochsa is a steep Class IV+ run that was
ranked as one of the nation's best paddle rafting rivers by Paddler magazine.
It is big water during May and June, providing a wet, wet day. The Lower Salmon
is a deep gorge with a ton of sandy beaches and fun, rolling waves. It has been
compared to Grand Canyon often. The Selway is a hidden whitewater gem in the
heart of Idaho's wilderness. It is rare to even see this incredible river, let
alone face its' famous rapids.
Q: Do I get to
paddle?
A: Yes, most of the time. Everyone has to paddle on the Lochsa, and
at times on the Selway and Salmon. We run all paddle rafts or stern mount
paddle assist on our Lochsa trips, and can arrange for paddle boats on the
Selway or Salmon. Tell us what you want!!
Q: Do I have
to wear a wetsuit?
A: Always on the Lochsa and usually on the Selway, depending upon
water temperature. Sometimes a wetsuit is necessary on early Lower Salmon
trips, especially if kayaking often. Wetsuits aren't needed on our Watermelon
float trips leaving from the Resort in the summer. We love
wetsuits!!
Q: Okay,
what's the real deal here? Why would I want to go
rafting?
A: Whitewater rafting is a great way to achieve those optimal
experiences. It allows you to push yourself to the limit and succeed at
conquering something worthwhile. You won't be thinking about any daily
nuisances when you are dropping into Ladle, Snowhole, or Ten Pin Alley. And you
won't have any worries when you are laying on the beach relaxing. Put yourself
in a position to create a great lifelong memory. We are here!
Q: Are you
guys licensed or something?
A: Yes, we are licensed as an outfitter in the state of Idaho, and we
run under Forest Service and BLM permits.
Q: Where is
Three Rivers Resort and Rafting located?
A: We are located in north central Idaho on US highway 12. We are 99
miles east of Lewiston, Idaho and 123 miles west of Missoula, Montana. We are
at milepost 97, at the confluence of the Lochsa, Selway, and Clearwater Rivers.
Situated in the Clearwater National Forest, along the Lewis and Clark Trail and
Lochsa Wild and Scenic River, we are near the edge of the Selway-Bitterroot
Wilderness Area.
Q: How do I
reserve a spot on a trip?
A: Figure out some possible DATES and call our office at
1.888.926.4430. We'll find the right river and date for you! A deposit
can be left via credit card to secure your spot. Then we'll send you a
reservation packet with detailed logistics, an invoice, packing list, and
consent form.
