5 days Class III+
July through September Water Level - Salmon River at
White Bird The Lower Salmon River Gorge is sometimes called the
"canyons" section of the "River of No Return. It flows northerly, then west,
between the Camas Prairie and the Joseph Plains near the borders of Oregon and
Washington. This is the second deepest canyon in America, and affords for a
remarkable river adventure. Visit this beautiful corridor with Three Rivers
Rafting in a guided raft, or paddle one of our inflatable kayaks. The
volcanic rocks of the Seven Devils group and the lava flows of the Columbia
River Basalt forms the landscape of the basin. The river creates four distinct
canyons: Green, Cougar, Snowhole, and Blue. A relaxed pace is interspersed with
great rapids like Demons Drop, Bodacious Bounce, Snowhole, China, and
Slide. The water is relatively warm, and the giant white sand beaches make
deluxe campsites. The river trip covers 54 miles of the Salmon to the
confluence with the Snake River, then an additional twenty miles through lower
Hells Canyon to the takeout. This trip can be a great family
adventure for all ages. You will discover interesting historical sites like Nez
Perce Indian pit dwellings, rock houses left by Chinese miners in the
1800s, and ancient Indian pictographs painted on the rocks. Fish for
Rainbow trout or smallmouth bass. Let us furnish the gear and guides so you can
relax and have fun. Trips begin and end in Lewiston, Idaho.
